M.P.E.C. 2017-X05 Issued 2017 Dec. 2, 03:14 UT The Minor Planet Electronic Circulars contain information on unusual minor planets and routine data on comets. They are published on behalf of Division F of the International Astronomical Union by the Minor Planet Center, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network MPC@CFA.HARVARD.EDU URL https://www.minorplanetcenter.net/ ISSN 1523-6714 MINOR PLANET CENTER AND HTTPS: The Minor Planet Center announces that it will shortly switch its website over to the https: protocol and switch off access via the http: protocol. This change has been mandated by both our funding agency (NASA) and our host institution (SAO). We intend to make the switch on Monday, December 11. Browser access to our website after the switch-over should be unaffected, except for those browsers with very old SSL/TLS support. This transparent change (for the majority of users) will be achieved using automatic redirects and HTTP Strict Transport Security. Users may have to upgrade their browsers to versions with newer SSL/TLS support, or switch to using another browser. Programmatic access to the site may be more problematic, as success will be dependent on the relevant library supporting redirects and SSL. In our tests we have had success with cURL version 7.19.7 (released in late 2009): the latest stable version is 7.56.2. We have not done extensive checking on compatibility due to the large number of packages that might be used and the multiple versions of the libraries. A. U.
