COMET P/2019 LD2 (ATLAS)
A. Fitzsimmons and D. Young (Queen's University of Belfast) suspected a
faint extension to 2019 LD2 in ATLAS discovery images taken 2019 June 10.4 UT.
Follow up imaging was performed by J. Armstrong (University of Hawai'i) and
S. Moss (Parkway Central Middle School, Chesterfield, USA) with the LCOGT 1.0m
at SAAO on June 11.3 UT and June 13.1 UT, and with the LCOGT 2.0m at Siding
Spring on June 11.5 UT, confirming the cometary appearance. Imaging of 2019 LD2
was obtained with the 4.2m WHT and ACAM imager on August 5.0 UT and August 6.9
UT, showing activity on both nights. On both nights, a 300-second exposure in
SDSS-r filter shows a short tail 3.6 arcsec long at PA 225 degrees. The object
has a FWHM of 2.0 arcsec compared to nearby field stars with FWHM 1.3 arcsec.
